  Dream Thief, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, Dream Merchant, & Young Avengers

  Dream Thief #1- Story wise, I like the premise, I like the pacing, and I like the overall script. My only real problem with the story is that the main character is an asshat, who’s not really likeable at all. That’s kind of mostly the point, or at least I hope it is. The real draw for me though is Greg Smallwood’s artwork.

  Chin Music, Teen Boat, Bodie Troll & Batman

  Chin Music #1- I went into this not expecting to really care and came out pleasantly surprised. Generally, Steve Niles bores the hell out of me. It’s not so much that he’s a bad plotter or scripter; it’s just that he tends to follow the same themes and genres pretty tightly.

  reMIND, Regular Show, Age of Ultron, & Crossed

  reMIND Vol 1 HC- Years ago Jason Brubaker created a blog to share his experiences with creating a graphic novel, and while I followed it for a bit I eventually lost track of his progress. Finally we have the finished product (first via Kickstarter but comic stores can now order from larger distribution), and it is an extraordinarily nice package.

  The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, Mass Effect: Redemption, & Wolverine

  The Case of Charles Dexter Ward GN- I’m incredibly impressed by this adaptation of Lovecraft as I.N.J. Culbard has a great sense of pacing and storytelling and really delivers a solid book. The artwork reminds me of a mix between Jason Lutes and Guy Davis as Culbard has a very distinct style for facial expressions and utilizes nice crisp lines and simple and clean movement on his figures.

  Black Bat & Ultimate Comics Ultimates

  Black Bat #1-Black Bat is an interesting character not because he’s an interesting character, but because it actually is a bit arguable whether he is a rip-off of Batman or the other way around. Both hit the newsstands around the same time, both claimed the other was a rip-off, and a DC editor had to broker a deal so that both could exist.

  Polarity, Shadow Falls, Age of Ultron, & Lil Gotham

  Polarity #2- This second issue totally carried the momentum from the previous and expands on the great concept. I’m very much enjoying this and I love Jorge Coelho’s artwork. Definitely worth giving it a try as it’s only a four issue mini-series.
