- Reading Pile: 1/24/16Carver, Slash & Burn, Insexts, Tomboy, & Finding Molly
Carver: A Paris Story #1-A very strong first production from creator Chris Hunt, plus it comes with a short back-up by Paul Pope so it’s a decent package. I found Hunt’s scripting to be a little stiff but still entertaining, and while certain aspects of his art can benefit from some refinement over time I did feel that he had a really engaging style.
- Reading Pile: 1/23/16Swamp Thing & Dreaming Eagles
Swamp Thing #1- The Len Wein/Kelly Jones Swamp Thing collaboration for Convergence was….well, let’s be honest here guys, it was pretty horrible. And maybe that was because it was framed within Convergence, and these creators couldn’t do much with that? If I were generous I would let that fly, but if you read the majesty that was Convergence: SHAZAM then I don’t think that argument is completely valid. So round 2 picks up here and….I don’t care?
- Reading Pile: 1/22/16Replica, Lois and Clark, & Rowdy Roddy Piper: Monster Hunter
Replica #1- This has probably been the most engaging of the Aftershock comic launches for me so far, largely due to Paul Jenkins just having fun with a concept and Andy Clarke’s pencils doing wonders with the world they’ve created.
