This time of year folks are looking for spooky stories and comics are a great avenue for such stories. With the wealth of adult horror stories, where are all the fun all-age titles for the young ones that love a creepy tale? Here’s a couple of titles that are great options for the spooky kids out there.

Plot synopsis: Imagine Garth Hale’s surprise when he’s accidentally zapped to the spirit world by Frank Gallows, a washed-out ghost wrangler. Garth finds he has powers the ghosts don’t have, but he’s stuck in a world run by the evil ruler of Ghostopolis, who would use Garth’s newfound abilities to rule the ghostly kingdom. When Garth meets Cecil, his grandfather’s ghost, the pair search for a way to get Garth back home.
This story has a tone that is reminiscent of early Tim Burton films. With interesting and unique characters that fulfill on their own story lines throughout the book, it is highly recommended. It deals with difficult life circumstances and puts a witty and heart-warming spin on it. Be sure to check out this book!

Plot: Courtney’s parents have dragged her out to a high-to-do suburb to live with her creepy Great Uncle Aloysius in his spooky old house. She’s not only the new kid in school, but she also discovers strange things lurking under her bed.
This series runs 7 volumes, in a beautifully hardbound format. I recommend this series for those looking for a creepy, magical world, with relate-able themes, such as fitting in at school (or not).

Plot: Magic Trixie doesn’t understand why no one will take her seriously! First, she’s not allowed to do anything fun, while her baby sister gets away with everything, and then she needs to come up with a trick that’s really special to impress her friends. Luckily Trixie has the best plan ever.
This is a 3 volume series, in a digest-sized softcover format. Jill Thompson’s art is whimsical and fun. Plus, her coloring really adds to the whimsy and charm in this Halloween town that she’s created. For availability, unfortunately, only vol 1 and 3 are available right now. Make sure to grab them before they are out of print!
And if you just can’t get enough of Jill Thompson’s sweet and spooky artwork, check out her scary godmother series:
